No One Like You | Day 05
January 8, 2021

“How great you are, Sovereign LORD! There is no one like you, and there is no God but you, as we have heard with our own ears.”

2 Samuel 7:22

Do you have a favorite restaurant? That one place, taking money out of the equation, that you would eat at weekly if not several times a week? Just imagine sitting there right now. You probably can already name what you would order. You can smell the food right now just thinking about it right? Nothing compares to that favorite meal at that favorite place.

Now have you ever been to a place that was similar to your favorite place? They maybe even had menu items that seemed close. The outside may have looked the same. The atmosphere may have been close to your favorite place. But when the food came you realized pretty quick: “This isn’t ______________”

Emily and I have a favorite restaurant here in Tennessee and there is nothing that compares in my opinion. It’s a steak place and if I could, I would eat there several times a week. I’ve never had a better steak. Recently we went to another steak place and left saying to each other “man that was not as good as our favorite spot”. It wasn’t as good and felt like the “knock-off” version.

2 Samuel 7:22 says there is “no one like you, and there is no God but you”. Nothing can come close to knowing and pursuing the God that created you. The sad thing is that often we will settle for knock off versions of what only God can bring into our lives.

If you need peace, only Jesus can bring that. Alcohol, drugs, addictions, unhealthy habits, anger, they can all feel like they will bring you peace for a moment but really they are just Knock-offs of what only Jesus can bring.

If you are looking for purpose, only Jesus can bring that. Relationships, jobs, promotions, likes, and follows are just a temporary fix. While there’s nothing wrong with any of those things, there is a problem with trying to find your purpose in them.

Are you looking for something that only Jesus can bring in all the wrong places? Much like our favorite restaurant, are you looking for the 5 star experience that only Jesus can bring at the 1 star fast-food version? Take a moment and as yourself “what is it that I need the most right now”. Then ask “am I looking for it in Jesus? Or am I looking for it in all the wrong places?”

Jesus has all you need. Here are some simple ways that you can daily redirect yourself to look to Him for all you need:

  1. Be in the Bible daily. Don’t know where to start? Start in the book of John. Read small amounts at first and grow it from there. God’s word is the primary way God speaks to us today. You can’t find what you need in Jesus without it.
  2. Pray. Prayer is just talking to God. And here is the secret: He already knows that you need before you pray. But God won’t bring what you don’t ask for. Prayer redirects our attention and our thoughts to focus on Him for out needs. God may not answer your prayer exactly how you asked or thought He would. But God will always bring exactly what you need.

“God help me to look to you for all I need. Help me to see that you want the absolute best for me. Point out the things in my life that i’m trying to find in all the wrong places. I want to live for you. Nothing compares to you.
